Emay Ulaney
Emay was born in Chongqing, China, and began piano at five. Guided and taught by her father, a very accomplished musician, he started her Guzheng training at 7. At the age of 9, she won her first competition performing, "The Flight of the Bumble Bee" by composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov as her first piano performance. She graduated from college in 2000 and worked as a piano teacher. In 2004, she earned the piano guzheng gold award at the national rookie competition.
Arriving in the United States in 2010, she participated in the UW Chinese Gala and the Overture Center International Arts Festival performance. In 2015 She led students in Guzheng, piano, and Chinese UlanWay at the Overture Center.
Emay teaches Guzheng, piano, and Chinese culture and performs Guzheng in the Madison, WI area.
